Developing new skills

Published on October 4th, 2022 by Cem Hurturk

"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life" - Theodore Roosevelt

It is said that learning a new skill is invaluable for our personal development and sense of fulfillment in life. Often, it is not by choice but a requirement that we learn a new skill. However, for many people, learning a new skill means inevitably stepping out of your comfort zone. While this may seem overwhelming, ultimately it allows us to learn more about ourselves and test our resilience levels. Here, perseverance and motivation are key.

It is natural that during the learning process, you may feel defeated. However, humans are nothing if not adaptable. With practice, patience and time, you can overcome this. You may even eventually adopt this skill as part of your daily routine, so much so that it becomes an everyday habit that you do not need to think twice about.

So… When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone and mastered a new skill for your sense of growth and achievement?

If you have always wanted to learn to play the piano or to ride a bike, what is stopping you? Don’t wait for the opportunity to present itself, take control. There is no time like the present!

Recently, I decided to learn how to outline draw. To do this, I used Affinity Designer and watched outline drawing tutorials on YouTube. Although at first, it was challenging, I also enjoyed myself. Eventually, through perseverance, it became easier. See the results below for yourself!
